Do not rejoice when your enemies fall, and do not let your heart be glad when they stumble, or else the Lord will see it and be displeased. -Proverbs 24:17-18. Heavenly Father, I come to you to ask that you help me grow in compassion for others. Its easy to feel concern for my family and friends and those I love. Its simple to want the best for those whom I deem innocent, such as children, victims of crimes, and the poverty-stricken. Its much more difficult to expand my circle of care to include those who have perpetrated wrong against me personally or against society at large. But you have commanded us to love everyone, not just those we decide are deserving of our compassion. Please remind me that we are your children and are deserving in your eyes. I ask in your awesome name. Amen.
