Do nurses really need to be reminded on the basics of care? The NMC thinks so. The NMC is publishing a revised version of the code at the end of this year - and it could include a new clause stating all nurses must ensure patients get the basics of care, including: Access to nutrition and hydration Help if they are unable to feed or drink liquids by themselves Patients being cared for in clean and hygienic conditions Patients are being physically handled and moved appropriately Do you think it is helpful for these basics to be in the code? Has your trust introduced new initiatives to make delivering these needs easier?
