Do watch this video (she speaks initially in Tamil followed by a nice speech in English). It is not just Tamil, everyone should be proud of his/her mother tongue while respecting each and every language. Each language has its own beauty and greatness. Any mother tongue is great as the word mother is attached to it! Look at the way this (Srilankan) Tamilian speaker is applauded by her Canadian compatriots. Many years back, I attended a meeting at Delhi chaired by Dr.Abdul Kalam who was the boss of our DRDO at that time. During my short presentation, I quoted the English-translated version of a Tamil proverb to accentuate a point. But, Dr.Kalam intervened and asked me to tell the Tamil version of the proverb to the participants most of whom were non-Tamils. I must admit that I did it with a bit of hesitation! Later on, I realized the simplicity and love for mother tongue of Dr.Kalam who would liberally quote from a number of lines from the rich Tamil literature (the Tamil version followed by its translation) in many international conferences including a UN General Assembly address when he was the President of our country. In that way, I welcome the Hindi address made by our PM, Mr.Modi, in a meeting attended by participants from other countries.
