Do we have any north-west Ireland members here? Ive always wondered what, if anything, is left of the Listowel & Ballybunion monorail. I mean, they re-created the Listowel end, so thats there now with about a kilometer of track. Plenty of pictures available of that. And there are a bunch of pictures of the operating railraod. But in-between those two communities, what can be seen of the remains? Has anyone done any field work? Its a bit of a problem, because the monorail was built as an A-frame, with the one weight-bearing rail in the center, and two supporting rails on the sides. As the level of the line changed, they didnt move earth, but instead, built the A-frames taller. Thats why Im intensely curious -- given the construction method, is *anything* left? Fencelines, maybe? Parallel rows of trees? Funny bumps in the road where they had bridges to cross the railroad? lartiguemonorail/history.php
