Do we need to talk about crosswalks again? Could we be so rude but - TopicsExpress

Do we need to talk about crosswalks again? Could we be so rude but to ask if you use the crosswalk that you step into the crosswalk and wait to make sure the motor vehicle operators have a chance to stop and let you cross? Before you start cursing me, or right after you stop cursing me, could I ask that drivers pay attention to people that have stepped into a crosswalk and stop when you see them? You know, like we all learned in drivers ed. With that said, we will be writing tickets, aka, a trip to court to those that blatantly disregard either one of the previously suggested modes of operation. Thats right, if you are crossing in locations other than crosswalks and we see you doing so, you will also be asked to pay the ridiculous sum of $137.00. ( we do not decide the amount of the fines and we do not get the money, fyi). The same goes for drivers who do not stop if you, the pedestrian, have appropriately stepped into a crosswalk and make it known that you need to cross. You can even give a little wave (like a princess ) to show drivers you are there and waiting. Again, this is not a game of Frogger. We have to observe it to write the summons. Do not call us to turn in a former significant other or the neighbors who put up the ugly fence near your begonias. We, the police, need to observe it and there really are not that many of us. We cannot catch each violator and would love to see some courtesy and voluntary compliance. This seems fair. Thank you for your consideration in following these and other laws. The men and women of the Bangor Police Department will be here.
