Do we really believe God hears and answers prayer? If so, why do - TopicsExpress

Do we really believe God hears and answers prayer? If so, why do we not pray more? We are told to “Pray without ceasing” (1 Th 5:17). Proverbs 15:29 tells us, “The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.” The fact is that every failure we have is a prayer failure. When we pray we are not simply engaging in a religious ritual—we are talking to a loving and gracious God who hears us. This knowledge is a critical part of the process to receiving answers to our prayers. John wrote, “And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him” (1 John 5:15). Sometimes we receive what we ask for immediately, but other times prayer becomes a lengthy process. George Müller prayed for more than fifty years for the conversion of two of his friends. One was saved just before he died and the other not long after his death. In time, his prayers of many decades were answered. If we do not receive a quick answer to our prayer, we are tempted to lose faith—to doubt that God is hearing us. That is was happened to Abraham and Sarah. When God’s promise of a son was not fulfilled, they took matters into their own hands. Their plan created conflict and was filled with disaster. Rather than losing heart and getting discouraged, we should continue to trust God even when we must wait for an answer. He does hear and answer prayers, and we can count on Him to give us what is best in His timing. Rejoice in the knowledge that God hears your prayers today and allow that fact to strengthen your faith.
