Do you create an autonomous environment as a coach or trainer? From one of my students...leadership is especially important in a group training environment or when coaching a team. Sari et al discovered in their study that the leadership style of the coaches shapes the athletes performance environment, and that positive coaching behavior/leadership contributes to the psychological needs of the athletes and increases their communication skills. They found that communication is critical for sports environments and if the athletes needs for competence, autonomy and relatedness are met, the athletes are more apt to communicate more effectively, learn and perform better in a more positive environment.
