Do you ever walk into your childs room to wake them up and just stop and look at them? Really look at them? Do you look at the curve of their jaw, and the way the sun has touched their hair and nose? Do you listen to their soft, even breathing like you did when they were infants and you worried because they slept too long-they laid too still. Do you look at their long legs stretching all the way to the bottom of their bed and wonder when that could have possibly happened while youve been with them every day of their life? Do you have the sudden knowledge that this moment is rare and magical, and that even this everyday privilege that you take for granted most days-is temporary; fleeting even, and someday when you look back, youll realize how short these looking-upon-your-sleeping-child years really were? I do. And sometimes its too much truth to take in.
