Do you feel there are too many run down properties in our area? After months of public discussion, the Laurel town council unanimously passed the first reading of a proposed ordinance that would limit the number of days homes could stay boarded. The proposed ordinance says the boards on these homes must be placed on the inside and should be removed after 30 days. In an emergency situation, boards could stay on for up to 90 days with the approval of the Code Enforcement Office. A second and final reading of the ordinance is on the agenda for Mondays town council meeting. In past meetings, Laurel Mayor John Shwed has said there needs to be a limit because these homes detract from the towns image.
