Do you find it difficult to trust people? I love to give everyone - TopicsExpress

Do you find it difficult to trust people? I love to give everyone the benefit of the doubt no matter what the situation may appear. But what if the situation is crystal clear and it’s not pretty? I’m certain we’ve all dealt with some level of betrayal or distrust and when these instances arise our instinct is to protect our hearts from future bruises. But God never intended for us to protect ourselves. He is our stronghold and defense. And unfortunately protecting ourselves and being extra careful who we trust could prevent us from trusting in the One who never forsakes us. I mentioned last week that my personal study through the Old Testament has me currently in the book of Psalm. I’m working on giving all of myself to the Lord, holding nothing back and emptying me of me so I can be filled with Christ. And Psalm 31:5 and 19 have become my pillars to guide me home. Psalm 31:5 and 19 say, “Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth. Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men!” Do you trust the Lord enough to fully commit your spirit to him? Trust is defined as, “Assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something; dependence.” It’s not enough to say we trust in the Lord while living frantic, stressed, and confused lives. If we truly depend and rely on the character of God and on His ability, strength and truth we will live peaceful lives through the uncertain times. Psalm 31:19 says the goodness of God is for those who fear Him in the presence of others. We have to walk our talk so others can see it and desire it for themselves. If they see us burdened and suffering but saying we trust God to handle it we make a mockery of His goodness. But if on the other hand we accept the situation in all of its complexities and still manage to smile and keep calm, we allow God’s goodness to turn our tragedy into triumph. Psalm 34:8-10 says, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him. The young lions lack and suffer hunger; but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.” Seek the Lord, open your heart to Him and trust Him to protect it. People may bruise us and lose some of our trust but we can’t allow their actions to close our hearts to the God that redeemed us, and promises that we shall not lack any good thing. So as I empty myself of distrust and fear and commit my spirit to the Lord I ask you to join me in doing as it says in Psalm 34:3 “Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.” With Love, Brittany
