Do you have a Thomas the Tank Engine fan in your house?! If so, - TopicsExpress

Do you have a Thomas the Tank Engine fan in your house?! If so, you may like to try the Severn Valley Railway. This summer, during August, there is the added attraction of a pop up beach at Arley station so you can climb aboard with your bucket and spade and stop off at the beach on the way! For younger children, Kidderminster to Arley is probably the perfect distance to travel by steam. If you have older children, we can really recommend going Kidderminster to Bridgnorth. Take a picnic and have it in Brignorth and then wander into town and go on the Cliff Railway - the oldest and still the steepest furnicular railway in the country! At £1.20 return and under 6s go free, its a great attraction at a great price. There is a lovely cafe at the top - its called the Winding House tea rooms. We can recommend their cream teas and if you can get a table on the terrace you can watch the retro cable cars going up and down every few minutes! On the way back to Kidderminster, you can hop off the train at Highley and visit the Engine House museum with beautifully restored engines and a Hornby train set working. It has a viewing platform to see the steam trains chuff past and a playground (although this is lovely, it is only small and we suspect it could get crowded in the summer holidays). Finally, dont forget to look out of the window on the left hand side as you come out of Bewdley station. You can look out over West Midlands Safari Park and see how many animals you can spot. On the day we went we saw a baby elephant (with its parents) and a rhino, as well as antelope. So you get an added attraction! For timetable details see the website svr.co.uk
