Do you have an Eating Disorder? How Ready Are You to Change... - TopicsExpress

Do you have an Eating Disorder? How Ready Are You to Change... Research has identified a number of stages in the process of readiness for change and we use this in the Wellness Coaching model. I use it alongside the 10 Stages of Recovery, which you can find on my website ED page. First, there is pre-contemplation, where someone is not ready or willing to consider change. (An example of this is using and/or abusing food in an unhealthy manner but not admitting you have a problem.) Secondly, there is contemplation, where the person has begun to consider changing but hasn’t yet taken any action. (This might be when you realise you have a problem but are reluctant to go for help, as maybe you equate recovery with putting on weight.) Thirdly, there is the preparation stage, where someone is preparing to make a move towards change. (Here, you may have gotten the phone number of a clinic or therapist, but haven’t had the courage to call them for an appointment.) Lastly, there is action, when the person is actively involved in creating change. (You become engaged in treatment.) How ready are you to change? Which stage are you in? Often new clients will have thought about contacting me for many months before finally having the courage to create change in their lives and call. But making initial contact is only the first step. Becoming actively involved in recovery is a conscious daily effort. It’s not always that simple, as you can switch from one stage to another in minutes! Knowing and believing you deserve happiness and a healthier way to exist your mind and body is a great motivator to begin with. You know where to find me when youre ready to take action! Self-love is the way for healing..... V xo
