Do you have any expired or unwanted flares or EPIRB? You can drop off your old flares or EPIRB to the Coast Guard at Redland Bay. We are located at the boat ramp at Weinam Creek, just off Banana St, Redland Bay. We operate Saturday and Sundays. Flares expire after 3 years and are required for partially smooth or open waters, e.g. Waters north of Peel Island. EPIRBs are required for operation more then 2nm offshore, but are recommended for all vessels and batteries expire after a set period as marked on the EPIRB. EPIRBs must be registered (For Free) at beacons.amsa.gov.au/registration.html. When registered, this 1. Aids Rescue Services to identify, locate and assist you much faster; and 2. Helps prevent unwanted or accidental activations of emergency services that can cost into the thousands as has happened in Moreton Bay previously. Dumping EPIRBs in the rubbish can result in unwanted activations, please drop them to Battery World or Coast Guard.
