Do you have anyone in your life with low vision or vision loss? If - TopicsExpress

Do you have anyone in your life with low vision or vision loss? If so, I hope the item Im posting may provide some inspiration and some resources. I had the great pleasure of running into some friends over the holidays recently, Bill and Sandra McGee, who have put together some invaluable resources, based on Bills journey with vision loss. Their experiences resonated with me in many ways. My family watched in sadness as my dads sight slowly disappeared due to Macular Degeneration. It was frustrating for this proud man and his family. He was a father of 7 children and retired as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army after a long career. The man who was always in charge had to rely on others for transportation, shopping and eventually, paying the bills, because he couldnt see well enough, even with enhanced reading equipment. Im a big supporter of services to help with vision impairments and organizations that help the blind, including the Blind Babies Foundation and the Lions Club. Please take a moment to check out Bill and Sandras information and share it with everyone you know. Here is what Sandra sent to me about their material: The recording we made in 2010/2011 of Learning To Cope With Sight Loss is available for those who are eligible from the Library of Congress National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. The audio book is downloadable from the NLS BARD library - or can be mailed to a recipient on a special cassette for a special cassette player that is designed for a low-vision or blind person.
