Do you have unused pet medication sitting around your house? How - TopicsExpress

Do you have unused pet medication sitting around your house? How about dog/cat food that none of your pets will eat? If so, please donate it to us! As many of you know, we try to care for all of your pets REGARDLESS of income level. However, many times pets need medications that their owners cannot afford. While we try to help where we can (give items at cost and make no profit, accept payments, try to find a less expensive but equally effective alternative, etc) we cannot always do as much as wed like. If you have any food or medication to donate, we will gladly accept them and give them to clients in need. Additionally, we are hoping to set up a non-profit in the very near future where you can donate and 100% of all donations will be used to help pay for vet care for clients facing situations of adversity. Now, I know what some of you may be thinking. If you cant afford a pet, you shouldnt have one in the first place. Weve heard that over and over. While it is probably common sense that if you cant feed your family that you shouldnt spend thousands purchasing an animal, we believe that pets enrich ALL of our lives and that every person deserves to know the unconditional love that only a pet can offer. And, you know what? Many of our clients facing situations of adversity are just like you and me but have fallen on hard times- a spouse with cancer and bills are piling up, a special needs child whose medical bills have created hardship for the family, a hard working professional who lost their job, someone who lost their home in a fire...I could go on. It suffices to say that many, many financially stable, hard-working people in our society are only one big hardship away from not being able to pay their bills. And, when that happens, wouldnt it be nice for them to know that weve got them covered and that their pets can still get quality, affordable care until theyre back on their feet? We are very fortunate in this city to have Animal Humane of NM. They do a great job and stay very busy as a donor-subsidized vet clinic where clients pay on a sliding scale based on income. As many of you know, I often refer more complex cases and procedures to Animal Humane when the clients have financial limitations. However, several times a week I have clients who are unable to make it in to Animal Humane due to not driving, not being able to take off from work during the hours they are open, having too many young children at home to go in with kids/pets, etc. So we started to think...Wouldnt it be nice to be able to provide some donor-subsidized care that clients in need can get from the OWN vet and in the comfort of their own home? Thanks in advance for your generosity and thanks for hanging in there with us!
