Do you hear the cries of a city? The sound is upon us. For many it has been off in the distance muffled by politics, the City of Americus budget shortfall, and national news. Folks the cries today are for a child needlessly caught in the crosshairs of violence. We awoke again today to tragedy, not on Fox or CNN but to local coverage. Can it be? What is the total for the last 2 weeks? 1stabbed to death, 5 shot with 2 dead. One child shot in the head early in the morning. This is not acceptable! Let us not point fingers at public safety, let us not submit to prejudice of environment, let us come together as a community. This isnt Mayberry and the times have changed. We will each need to stand our ground in our own way to push ahead to take back our community. It is truly beginning to bother me as a first responder that my safety is now even more in jeopardy. We have lost law enforcement officers over the past few weeks to needless execution style murders. Not just NYPD but Tallahassee. A firefighter in Jacksonville was shot in a drive by shooting at his own firehouse. We as the front lines expect to be in harms way but the times have heightened our awareness to safety. I can press on every shift with the men and women of all public safety. It is time the community, the city, and us as individuals to to declare war on wrong doing. Stand fast and do your part to take back this citys future. This should be the strategic plan. It is hellish to go out upon this world, it is more hellish to hide in the bushes.
