Do you know Anna: Luke 2:36-38 There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. I hear pain in these words... She was a woman who had been married for seven years before her husband died. There is no mention of children. In fact, since Anna spent all her time at the temple it leads me to believe that she was childless. There’s nothing much said about Anna, except that we can assume she was at the temple much like Simeon waiting to see the promised Messiah. Because Simeon hung around the temple waiting, and Anna never left the temple, I am sure the two of them compared notes and talked about what they learned growing up. What these two had in common was their confidence in Gods promise. They knew the Scriptures. They knew what God had said. They knew about the One who was coming to redeem Israel. Granted they also knew that the promises had been made hundreds of years before. They knew the struggle that Israel was in under the Roman rule. They knew that many felt God had abandoned them. But they remained faithful. They trusted God in spite of the events they witness. In the temple that day they saw that their faith was rightly placed. God was faithful!!! Simeon and Anna found the real thing. They found the one they had been looking for all their lives. They found Jesus. And even though it has been 2000 years, He is the One. As she embraced the child, Jesus, in some strange way senses Gods warm embrace. She then couldn’t help it, she gave thanks to God. Anna saw in this child the answer to her pain. In that one simple moment her life is changed. She no longer mourns ~ she rejoices. She told everyone who would listen that this was the One she had been waiting for. A lonely, empty woman found healing for her pain. In the simple act of embracing that child she found the love of God. Happy Friday! https://youtube/watch?v=-gaT4q9eJ1U
