Do you know where to find Tavani? If you look on Google Maps, you can find it on Mistake Bay. Dont bother to visit, however, the place is ghost town. This abandoned mining settlement and trading post happens to be located in the Kivalliq Region of Nunavut, Canada. Tavani, sometimes known as Tavane, it is located on western Hudson Bays Mistake Bay, 31.3 km (19.4mi) south of the community of Whale Cove and 97 km (60 mi) east of Kaminak Lake. Dominion Explorers Limited, a mineral exploration company established Tavani in the summer of 1928, using it as an aerial base for prospecting activity along the Hudson Bay coastline. The party leader, Guy Blanchet, overwintered at the base in 1928/1929. However, in the fall of 1929, Dominion Explorers, moving its aerial base to Baker Lake and other areas of the north, sold the buildings to the Hudsons Bay Company. The precambrian geology of Tavani, nearby Marble Island, and Chesterfield Inlet are described by Subhas Tella in Precambrian Geology of Parts of Tavani, Marble Island, and Chesterfield Inlet Map Areas, District of Keewatin A Progress Report, publishes in 1986 by the Geological Survey of Canada.
