Do you love others like God loves you? God is not selective with his love—he plays no favorites. He loves each one of us equally. He loves us regardless of the color of our skin. He loves us regardless of our religion. He loves us no matter what we have done or will do. With God, it is all about us and not about him. That is what perfect love is all about. It is all about your feelings and not about mine. It is truly sacrificial. That is why God sacrificed his only Son for us. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:12-13 If God’s love were anything less than perfect, and had any conditions or was selective in any way, we would be in big trouble. God would be like the Greco Roman gods of myth who were fraught with human characteristics of vanity, pride, and jealousy. The mythological gods were vindictive and treated humans like toys. They played favorites. They lorded over humans. God does not lord over us. He loves over us. God created each one of us, not just some of us, in his own image and likeness. He then put us alongside him in Paradise. Even though we fell from Paradise due to our own freewill, God gave us a world of abundance and put us above every creature. “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.” Genesis 1:26 It is mind-boggling to understand how an infinite, all-powerful God can love us so and have given us such power. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon, and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor. You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet. Psalm 8:3-6 Think about this for a minute. God is love. God created us in his own image and likeness. That means that each one of us was created by love, for love, and to love. In each one of us is God, with love defining God. God did not create us to hate. He created us to be just like him. He created us to love. Are you living a life of love? Step back and really think about this for a bit. If you are not living in love how can you be living for God? If you are not living for God just who are you living for? Living in LOVE is the 3rd Secret to Life and maybe the most fundamental. None of us may be able to love unconditionally like God loves us but we sure can try! Are you even trying….????
