Do you remember the 1950s TV show “Queen for a Day?” My mother used to watch it when I was very young. From what I remembered, it was a game show where women won prizes like a stove or a washing machine. Very amusing, politically incorrect prizes by today’s standards. So I thought I would look it up, share it, and clown it, getting a good laugh from it. However, I had no idea how serious the show really was. 4 women with sob stories, competed for prizes that they requested. In this episode from 1958, watch the facial expressions on the 4 women. They are not at all what you would expect from game show contestants. The host, describing contestant number 1 says she would like a washing machine and a couple of new tires. Contestant number 2 has a son with brain damage and would like educational aid. Contestant number 3 has a brother who was accidentally shot and she would like a special wheel cot bed because he has to spend his life on his stomach. And contestant number 4 has a problem heating her home, so she would like a hole in the ceiling for the warm air, and make some vents (to warm the upstairs). Needless to say, I’m not clowning the show after watching it. Life was so much different back then. Americas first reality TV Show. https://youtube/watch?v=0YW-uv3Ibm8
