Do you remember the hearty breakfast we had when we were growing - TopicsExpress

Do you remember the hearty breakfast we had when we were growing up. I grew up eating idli and coconut chutney on most days. Even if she made sambar, my mom always used to insist that we should also eat a little coconut in the morning because it will keep our body cool and protect our eyes and hair in our tropical climate. I dont know whether there was some real science behind it or whether she used that to make us eat bfast regularly but her trick worked. We never went to school hungry and I did have good hair then. Sigh. From January my daughter will be leaving home very early for school and it is already freaking me out. I asked a few moms and one friend sadly told me that her daughter goes to school after drinking just a glass of milk because both mom and daughter have a long drive so they have to leave home early. She said that her daughter vomited on most mornings and she assumed her daughter had motion sickness. She was surprised when I told her that drinking milk alone in the morning can sometimes cause curdling of milk because of stomach acids. Add a long drive to that. Now her daughters puking has reduced a lot after she started to eat solids and they wake up half an hour earlier. Coming back to the topic of regular breakfast, I have no idea how my mom managed to get bfast and lunch ready while getting the 3 of us ready for school. Yet she showed up at work on time. Phew. Sometimes I have yielded to my daughters demands and given her chocos or kellogs. Looks like not eating proper breakfast not only affects their concentration at school but it also can make our kids not eat properly during lunch. I never knew that. If you are like me and have a kid who thinks he / she can survive without food, then this article also talks about how to introduce textures (of food) that your kid avoids and also how to avoid turning eating into a power struggle. indianparentsforum/home/high-carbohydrate-diet-and-classroom-performance/
