Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him (Pro. 26:12). If you feel or imagine that you are right and suppose that your book, teaching or writing is a great achievement . . . . then, my dear man, feel your ears. If you are doing so properly, you will find that you have a splendid pair of big, long shaggy asses ears (Luther, Here I Stand, 46). Hear and give ear; be not proud, for the Lord has spoken (Jer. 13:15).
