Do you share interests with your family? I love my family dearly, but they dont share my interest in beads, writing, drawing or music; they see those things as fun hobbies that amuse me, not as Things That Matter As Much As Breathing. For a long time, thats been an inner conflict for me - Ive felt there was something really wrong with me for caring so much about things that are so unimportant to my family. Recently, thats entered an area of cognitive dissonance: I now know a lot more people who care as much as I do about these things, and although my familys opinions are important to me, they have (at least by numbers) become the minority opinion in the jury of my life. Could my family - gasp! - be wrong about the importance of these things? Is it really okay for me to be someone who creates with beads, draws diagrams, writes instructions, and plays increasingly sweet resonator guitar? Im starting to think that the answer just might be yes to those questions.
