They were widely used by professional writers, in offices, for business correspondence & in private homes. By the end of the 1980s, word processors and personal computers had largely displaced typewriters in most of these uses. With the introduction of laptops, tablets & smartphones, typewriters will definitely, albeit slowly lost its past glory & become merely a collectors item. There is not an iota of doubt that you can still find typewriters in modern offices but in most cases, their usage are minimal or mostly left in a corner to gather dust & cobwebs.
