Do you think the British government could be tweaking the unemployment figures as for some reason they now want interest rates to rise, and as that is the first condition then they have found a way (as they always can to a degree) to make them look more optimistic? This could be by reducing the numbers counted, such as those not on benefits (another reason to reassess people), and include part timers who still get benefit but add a little extra by working themselves? As I do not see any circumstance the government would ever benefit from higher rates, as they have a trillion or so debt and they are paying it back at base rate, but it does seem odd that in a shrinking economy (going by true inflation and lack of related wage rises, the real signals of a true recession) unemployment is falling so fast, unless of course theres a totally different reason they want it to rise (like an election), and the Bank of England already changed the conditions for a rise when the unemployment started falling in reality. The moral, never trust anything your government say, as one day they can say exactly the opposite to the next, and prove it with statistics.
