Do your body products contain these Six ingredients to AVOID? There are so many ingredients that can be potentially harmful and a lot of people find that overwhelming. There seems to be too many dangerous to avoid and they all have unpronounceable names with too many consonants! Here is a short list of the six bad chemicals to look out for. Phthalates – solvents, dyes or plasticizers in cosmetics and perfumes. Can absorb into the skin or enter into the body through inhalation and can cause problems with the kidneys, liver, lungs, and reproductive systems. Commonly in mascara, aftershave, perfume, hair spray and deodorants. 3. Petrochemicals – cheap by-product of the oil industry used in cosmetics. Creates a barrier on your skin than prohibits it to breathe and leads to dehydration (ex. Petroleum jelly, paraffin, chapstick, vicks rub, sunblock, baby oil). 4. Formaldehyde - classified as a carcinogen and skin irritant. Used as a preservative in nail polish, baby products, toothpaste, hair gel and dead bodies! 5. 1,4-Dioxane - probable human carcinogen. It has been linked to organ toxicity, neurotoxicity, and birth defects. Included in products that lather (to make you think they are cleaning) like shampoo, body wash, laundry soap, etc. 6. Synthetic Fragrances – Chemicals that are added to products to make them smell better. Companies are not required to list this on labels because it is considered a trade secret.
