[Doctor Who rant, ignore if un-interested in that show] 0:47 is Steven Moffats Doctor Who writing in a nutshell. I will only care about things like Missy, The Promised Land or The Woman in the Shop if you give me a REASON to care. Randomly acknowledging the existence of these story elements without expanding upon them in the middle of stories that are utterly irrelevant to this concept is bloody intrustive and distracting. Its the equivelant of the writer flailing his arms around shouting LOOK HOW MYSTERIOUS MY STORY IS!! ISNT IT JUST SO VAGUE AND AMBIGIOUS?!?! If youre gonna tie everything together at the end, fine. But I have NOT been impressed by his past attempts at this. The Crack in time thing from season 5 didnt get proper resolution until the end of 2013, (Over THREE. YEARS. after that plot element was introduced in early 2010...) and even that was a backhanded explaination that was sped past the audience at terminal velocity in the middle of an entirely different story! When hes good, Moffat can write well. But god his tropes annoy the life out of me, especially this one. And his fixation for writing female creepy manipulator characters in their 50s. How many of those has he written now, 6 or 7? Thats a wierd fixation to have.
