Dodo Cali Rose (DCR) was another dog at the Doris Day doggie - TopicsExpress

Dodo Cali Rose (DCR) was another dog at the Doris Day doggie fashion show held in Carmel that found a forever home! See story below: Written by Jill Butterfly: My husband and I went to Carmel the first week in April 2014 on vacation expecting to bring back some souvenirs and some stories about the DDAF fundraising dinner and pet fashion show that we were to attend the end of the week. Little did we know that our stories would involve actually meeting Doris Day and our souvenir would be a 15 pound Poodle, Terrier mix named Paige! We already had two dogs, Snooze, a 2 year old Maltese (a Mother’s Day present from my son and husband), and a 7 year old Shih Tzu puppy mill rescue, Daisy. We have had Snooze since she was 9 weeks old and Daisy just since Thanksgiving 2013. Daisy runs the house with an iron paw – that is until we brought Paige home. The SPCA in Monterey said that since Paige had been found running the streets of Soledad and was not claimed they didn’t really know her name, so we were free to give her a new one. So she became Dodo Cali Rose. Dodo in honor of Ms. Day, Cali because she is from California and Rose after Ms. Day’s new yellow rose. We fell in love with DCR immediately at the fashion show. She had incredible energy and so much affection to give. Since we weren’t expecting a live souvenir, we had to quickly check with the airlines and head to the pet store for a carrier and supplies. And so DCR flew home to Denver with us as live carry-on luggage! She slept most of the time and didn’t make a sound. Such an angel. I can’t imagine how someone just let her go and didn’t even try to find her. So sad. We came home on Sunday and DCR went to our vet on Monday. He said she was very healthy and very smart! Her first meeting with her sisters was pretty much as expected. A lot of sniffing, a lot of how do you do’s, where do I sleep, and where is my food. Daisy is no nonsense and has let it be known that all is ok as long as she doesn’t have to run around with the other two. DCR and Snooze run non-stop - in the house, out in the yard – wherever. The three girls love to walk together. I love watching my husband walk them, three little white dogs with pink leashes. Dad and his girls are inseparable. The girls have worked it out in a very short period of time, they all get along – DCR is the instigator, Snooze follows her lead and Daisy just lays there and shakes her head as if to say “silly dogs”. In the evening they are all three on the sofa with me, two next to me and one on my lap. Life is good. I think I heard that Ms. Day described the animals as “love all wrapped up in fur”, she is so right. Thank you to Doris Day for being the wonderful humanitarian that she is and for enriching our lives with these wonderful “4-leggers”. Oh yes, and the part of the story where we were able to meet Ms. Day – It Was Magic!
