Does any one believe this woman. I wrote her about not only the congressional raises, but the cuts to Military salaries and benefits and told her to resign or have her husband pay her and her staff out of the illegal profits he makes on the deals he makes in the senate eatery. You read her response and judge for yourself: March 18, 2014 Dear Mr Mahoney, Thank you for contacting me regarding pay for Members of Congress. I appreciate hearing from you, and I welcome the opportunity to respond. I oppose automatic pay increases for Members of Congress and have been a leader in the Senate in blocking efforts to increase Congressional pay, including introducing legislation to permanently block any automatic pay raises for Congress. Since 2009, Congress has not received a pay increase because of efforts like mine to block the law that provides for Congressional pay raises -- fiscal year 2014 was no exception. As you may know, since 1946, federal law has provided for annual automatic cost of living pay raises for Members of Congress. However, since the 2008 financial crisis, Congress has voted each year to forgo these raises in order to reduce federal expenditures. In October, 2013, I once again supported legislation to decline this automatic pay raise for 2014. Despite the fact that Congress has stopped Members from receiving an automatic pay raise, I find it unacceptable that the automatic pay raise exists at all. Employees in the private sector do not receive automatic pay raises, and neither should elected representatives. In addition to curbing Member salaries, I strongly believe that fiscal discipline in Congress must also apply to taxpayer-funds legislators receive to carry out their duties as elected representatives -- my own office budget is no exception. That is why I have conducted a comprehensive review of my Senate office finances in order to reduce inefficiency and slash spending. In each fiscal year since 2007, I have returned to the U.S. Treasury over 10% of the funds I received to maintain my Senate office. When it comes to curbing our budget deficit and national debt, I believe that every small, responsible improvement helps. As your United States Senator, I will keep your thoughts in mind as I continue to work to stop automatic pay raises for Members of Congress, eliminate wasteful spending, and restore fiscal discipline in government. Again, thank you for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of further assistance to you on this or any other issue. Sincerely,
