Does anybody remember Manor Stores which was on the corner of Acton Road? My Aunt Alice (Hudson) owned the shop and I loved going there and helping her. This was in the fifties. When she went on holiday my mum Kate Hardy (her sister) and dad would stay there and look after the shop for a week. I can remember being woken up at night by the bobby on the beat trying the door and shining his torch in the shop to make sure all was well. I have looked through the Long Eaton and Sawley Archives but can find no trace of her shop although you could buy anything there from dried yeast to bacon, from sweets to cigarettes.
