Does anyone else out there ever place sporting bets? I am so - TopicsExpress

Does anyone else out there ever place sporting bets? I am so confused: Tips from Andrew Hughes (respected F1 pundit): “If you’re looking for outsiders who can sneak into the top three at a decent price in Bahrain, it’s worth sticking with teams that use the Mercedes engine. E.g. Force India and Nico Hulkenberg at ~ 50/1.” Myself and my brother backed the Hulk at 66/1 and also his team-mate (who has had rotten luck so far) at an almighty 200/1. The bets were placed pre-qualifying to take full advantage of two drivers we felt would go well in Bahrain at the best price possible. (As Mercedes will now be repeatedly locking out the top 2 spots, a 3rd place is all you can really hope to sneak with an e/w bet). The end result? Sergio Perez finished an incredible 3rd – after going back to the Bookmakers to collect our winnings, we were told that for e/w bets on this race, only the top 2 positions would qualify and be paid. I have literally never heard of this before for a F1 race. So after thinking our analysis had paid off on a sport we absolutely love, we were basically told to always check the price. But the price was on the screen inside the Bookmaker’s shop? Why was third place not included for the e/w results? I am not having a go at Boschers as they are a great bunch in there and are always really helpful (top crowd) – but I can’t help but feel completely bemused by all of this… I am sure there is a perfectly good reason for this too, but I am clueless. Anyone?
