Does anyone have experience with shaved barrels? ive been looking for some used puncheons in South Australia, and cant find any. Was looking for French, but US would have been ok. I can get lots of 3-4 yr old french and US 300L for ~$150. The guy said he could shave and re-toast for an extra $50. But the thing is Im really not looking for new / small oak aroma (hence looking for puncheons). If i got 1 in every 4 shaved, would it dominate? It will be for a medium bodied Mourvedre. Also, does shaving and retoasting kill Brett in old barrels?
