Does being paid for a photography project make you a professional photographer? After all, you have been paid, so are you no longer an amateur, right? 45 years ago, this month, at 14 years of age, the marketing director for a CBS television station paid me $50 to do some photography. It worked out well—I knew all the basics, but at 14 I was a long way from taking my place with accomplished professionals. In retrospect, I wonder if up and coming creative professionals would be better served if a far-reaching internship system existed.
