Does everyone remember Ozzy? A picture of a dachshund laying on a cold wet floor in a West Virginia shelter that was deemed “rescue only”? Well it turns out, in addition to not being neutered, Ozzy had a mouthful of bad teeth and was sore from laying on that cold wet floor. SGF pulled Ozzy and he has been a delight. Ozzy is housebroken and crate trained. While he is crate trained, his ideal home would be with someone that is home most of the day and wants a lap dog. Ozzy does not like being crated for extended periods of time and becomes grumpy if crated for too many hours. Ozzy is also not the earliest of risers. He will get up to eat breakfast and use the bathroom, but he likes to return to bed following to sleep for a bit more. He does not like to be cold…EVER. Ozzy is good with cats and kids. Ozzy has no issue with other dogs his size (12lbs or less) but he is not fond of dogs that are considerably larger than him. He will grumble at larger dogs. Ozzy would be fine as an only dog, or with another dog his size. Ozzy has a grade I mitral heart valve degeneration. It has not worsened during his time in foster care. What this means is that Ozzy will need to have his heart checked every 6 months. Should Ozzy get to the point where medication is necessary the medication is relatively inexpensive. At this time Ozzy does not need medication, and the condition has not changed (and it may never worsen). Due to the neglected state that he was found in Ozzy will have to remain on a soft diet for the rest of his life as most of his teeth were pulled during his dental.Ozzy is definitely NOT the dog the shelter labeled him. He is an honest fellow with his own opinion. He can be grumpy and grumble, but he has never attempted to bite. Currently fostering in Ohio, but transport can be arranged within reason.
