Does it matter after all?.......... the party night The golden sun wearing a soothing glow with its reddish drapes over the ocean floor waving till the very shore was leaving the heaven through the western door. When the sun has kissed the heaven’s cheek, the sky was pink in the afterglow, lingering as if the embarrassment would never go. The wait for the night through the evening put every young hearts on rack where pendulums were striking the midnight whack. The ticking of the wall clock complained about the time, making them restless to save the nine. Their hearts were throbbing and drifting eyes went to the clock to keep up with time. Standing in-front of the mirror detailing tinniest adjustments they tried bringing out the radiance that would let no eyes, looking on them, to remain ignorant. Everyone were living in their Barbie-world dreams, caring their hairs and their cheeks, busy accentuating their speciality. Some were running with time some against, but nevertheless trying to put forward all their best. A final touch here a final touch there, frivolously they worked but the satisfaction wasn’t there. A week into preparation and still it was a hard time to cover the daunting task of perfection. Boys looked like young men in their tuxedoes and girls became ladies, phenomenally phenomenal, ready to steal breaths away. Oh! The irony of human fate, the killer instinct of the very saviour and the moth’s burning desire. Each boy had to drive their ladies from their room to the hotel ‘The Serene’. The hotel was twinkling in gorgeous, colourful lights, sparkling under the moonlit night; bring wonders to the heart to expect which was forbidden till the time. Sourav was intrigued not by the name of the hotel but by how truly correct it defined itself. As he passed the main entrance he found a lawn of velvety grass which he could feel under his shoe soles stretching down to the sea shore where the sand start. Palm trees at the end of the lawn on both the sides of his hand hiding the small buildings and cottages behind its back gave a look of seriousness to the natures land. The lawn was buried with lilac led lights giving an idea about the scattered fireflies. He was filled with concern to avoid stepping on a true firefly by mistake, thus ending an innocent life for selfish amusement to walk the beautiful velvety bed. Sourav was closing upon the middle of the lawn where stones were laid in the shape of a hill and from the centre water gushed down cascading on all side over every pebbles and stones. Passing by the lawn to the sea he could see a party on the beach. Canopy on the sides to serve beverages and food, DJ filled the atmosphere with his rocking numbers. The moon was up in the eastern side and the whole night was left for it to cross the sky, if any one was looking into the sea he would find the waves breaking smoothly onto the shore. There was a whole darkness lying over the ocean floor. Sourav was lost in the beauty of the sea when he heard someone shouting his name from the lawn, it was Vivek. “Sourav, that’s not our party, we need to go inside.” He pointed to his hand to the left. Sourav breathed a disappointment. He was thinking to come back to the shore very soon. “Sourav where is your date tonight?” Vivek enquired. “Don’t have one.” “I was expecting otherwise about you.” Sourav was few steps away from Vivek. “Sir, you were expecting differently. You must be joking, what were you expecting so differently? Seriously?” “Oh, come on boy! Many were thinking you might be having a handful tonight.” “Ah, ha! I must have really left many a people disappointed in me tonight.” “I don’t know about others but me, you didn’t exactly disappoint me, but utterly left me in surprise, that’s for sure. But don’t be sad, I got some good news for you” They have entered a very large hall of loud music with a dimly lit dance floor at the centre. The dance floor was very spacious, only a few steps down from the entrance. Around the dance floor a few couple of steps above the entrance floor were large spacious rooms with sofas to rest. Right across the hall from the entrance was the bar stand and Rajesh headed straight for it taking Sourav along with him. Vivek ordered a vodka and looked at Sourav to do the same. He tried to ignore Vivek. “Don’t tell me you do not drink, that will be like a tight slap across the face of engineering federation.” “It’s not that I never drank in the college. But.....” “But what? “ “I would like a beer.” Sourav asked the bartender. “You are still short on my expectation. But I have something for you that you least expect.” “And what is that?” “I was talking to the VP a little while ago and talked about the Party theme. And ...” “And the theme was changed. What difference does that make?” “You didn’t let me complete my sentence, you stupid.” “Ok. Tell. I am listening.” “I was taking to the VP a little while ago about the party theme, and asked him for a minute change...and he agreed.” Sourav waited for a minute to hear him speak something more, but Vivek kept on smiling like an idiot. “Is that all? Do I need to ask you about what was the so called minute change?” Vivek grinned flashing all his teeth out. “I needed to hear your attention, that very query, before I could let the secret out. So listen to me carefully to what I have to say.” “Will you stop beating about the bush, and cut the crab immediately.” “Ok, as you say. What is the major concern for all the guys like us?” “I have no idea what you are talking about. So do me a favour you eat enough of my head in the office. Spare me here. Right? And one more question from your mouth. I leave. Wanna try?” “Ok, I know you are upset about Abhi, but I got replacements. Yeah.” “First thing, you should know, so that you can stop babbling about me. Ok. I asked nobody to accompany me here. Second thing, I am not upset about anybody. Right?” “Right.” “Third thing. In-case if the two previous ones didn’t sink in your head. Read my lips. If you keep on babbling about me anymore then you should look somebody else in the office to get help from. Does it anyhow make sense to you?” “Right. Got the point.” “Good for you.” “I asked VP to understand how demanding is our work, which leaves us no time to mingle with outsiders.” “Really, that’s why you don’t keep jumping from one cubical to another? And you absolutely don’t coming running to me with your problems? ” “Do you expect me to tell our secrets to others?” “You are telling me as if you keep all our secrets intact.” “I do, but that’s not the point, VP agreed to issue extra passes.” “And you are going to use those extra passes next year. Oh! I imagine you didn’t want to break any girl’s heart choosing one over other so you promised them for the next year. Bravo! You are so farsighted.” “Ok, you can make fun of me but if you listen me out, you will thank me instead, every man here will thank me for my brilliance.” “Go on, chew my head.” “Do you know why I was there at the beach party?” “I think your questions won’t end, I should leave.” “No, please, just this one only.” “I am listening.” “I slipped passes to the ladies on the beach. Isn’t that great. I forgive you for your mistake little while ago. You can thank me now.” Vivek was giving his broadest grin with pride and Sourav was thinking to return to the beach.
