EFF members told to leave ‘the fat one’ Poloko Tau @PolokoTau 9 March 2014 10:00 They emerged from around a corner like a rushing wave surging towards the ANC’s Limpopo offices – and seconds later, red Economic Freedom Fighters T- shirts were torn to pieces. Then the ANC’s national chairperson, Baleka Mbete, walked out to welcome them. The ANC yesterday told journalists that the group was part of 1800 former EFF members who had left Julius Malema’s party and joined the governing party. The EFF, however, said those people were not their members as they did not have them in their records. Kidox Mogale, a former Pan Africanist Congress member who then joined the EFF, said they were mainly from Molepo, Marobala and Makweng in Limpopo. “We left the EFF because we were bulldozed, told that we’re from rural areas and we can’t serve in leadership positions. Almost everyone in the EFF leadership in the province is from Seshego,” Mogale said. “We can’t worship people from Seshego because Julius Malema is from Seshego. More people will be coming to the ANC and we’ve made inroads in some EFF branches in Seshego and some people have indicated they want to join us.” Mbete briefly spoke to the ANC’s new members: “This is only the beginning. We have today welcomed young people and gave them appropriate clothing [ANC T-shirts],” she said. Reiterating Mbete’s words, ANC Youth League national convenor Mzwandile Masina said: “This trend will continue in all opposition parties, including EFF. Most of these people are former ANC members who identified with an individual [Malema].” Masina told the new members: “We won’t promise you lies and say we’re going to double salaries of domestic workers. We know what is possible and not. You were misled. Tell everyone who joined the fat one that they must come back.” Michael Mathebe, the convenor of the EFF in Limpopo, insisted the “defectors” had never been members of the EFF. “Those people went and downloaded EFF membership forms from the internet and fabricated their membership,” Mathebe said.
