Does this sound desperate and urgent enough? Jyslin runs as fast as her frozen feet will carry her, pulse pounding in her ears. She pushes through the heavy, snow-laden branches lining the path to her right intent on escape, desperate to put more distance between herself and her bloodthirsty pursuer. Tree limbs grab at her cloak, catching the fur lined hood with its wooden talons, ripping it from her head to expose her face to their eye gouging claws. Pain stabs her side at each frantic step. Her knees quake, threatening to buckle and topple her face first into the snow. Confusion muddles her brain. She bears no visible wound and cannot remember being hurt, so why the crippling pain? Too much running? She staggers to a stop, gulping air into her aching lungs, desperate for someplace to hide A wolf howls at her flank. It’s too close. I don’t want to die! Fear forces her feet to move again. She trudges ahead blindly, pushing the forest from her path with flailing arms. The sounds of pursuit grow louder, the crunching of snow roars in her ears, and death’s hot breath singes the back of her neck.
