Does your department have a surveillance/ follow up program? I - TopicsExpress

Does your department have a surveillance/ follow up program? I wonder how often we in EMS are following our patients through definitive care to determine if our interventions really made a difference. A few years ago I was exposed to Dr. Bledsoes myths of EMS, at the time it made me upset as it basically challenged everything we do. However, while the studies he used he can be argued at least he backed it with evidence compared to the majority of protocols which are based on dogma and tradition. Do we really have proof that our interventions are helping? We argue the best way to achieve ROSC but how does that compare to improvements in 30 day mortality? If we want a seat at the table of healthcare providers dont we have an obligation to show patients treated by EMS have better outcomes?
