Doesnt this shady pathway look enticing? Follow it and youll find yourself entering medieval Dublin in the guise of the wonderful St Audoens Church. The path is perhaps reminiscent of the many little lanes which led from High Street (a main thoroughfare in medieval times just as it is today) down to the quays, busy little lanes crowded with people running up and down to the quays where much business was done. Some of the lanes were privately owned and if you wanted to pass you had to pay a toll and it was essential that the lanes be the width of a cart - no use having access to the quays if you couldnt bring goods there and back easily! So important were these lanes that lawcases were fought over them! And if you want to see the remains of one of these lanes, drop into St Audoens - one of the laneways was uncovered during excavations in the 1990s and you can see part of it in the Visitor Centre. It once ran all the way down to St Audoens Arch. So, take a wander along this path (built in the 20th century!) and see what treasures you will find in St Audoens. And you can enjoy the flowers along the way!
