Dog theft is on the rise with huge values of money in dog - TopicsExpress

Dog theft is on the rise with huge values of money in dog fighting, doctors, lawyers and other professionals betting on the cruelty. Keep your pets’ safe, especially big dogs which are often stolen for dog fighting. The most common case of thefts I have heard of is when pets at home alone with domestic & they leave the gate open to take dustbin outside or just to sit on the pavement at the corner of the street chatting to their friends. The pets may remain inside even if the gate is open but it’s a clear invitation to criminals cruising around the suburb in a vehicle, often well dressed in a white bakkie (to look inconspicuous), looking for this kind of easy opportunity to quickly snatch them up & sell them for dog fights, as fighters or small dogs as bait. Owners then return home to think the pets just escaped somehow but off course a domestic worker trying to protect their job will unlikely admit to leaving the gate open for an hour in the morning while she was out having tea. In my experience picking up strays a few blocks from their home, every single time the cause was domestic actions which also leads to home invasion type crimes when home owners are not there, often inadvertently inviting criminals in by leaving gates open, answering the buzzer to admit no one else is home, leaving the key in the lock of a closed gated while popping off to the local spar or park to chat with friends. Best suggestion is to have a doubled gated home so they do not have access to the road area or if you have to leave your pets inside while you are not there. My dogs are behind a second gate inside the property so never have access to the gat facing the road regardless of pedestrians, making a difficult target for criminals, hopefully deterring them completely when they hear the barking in the back but are blind to what the setup is or what they could be walking into.
