Doggie Meat Loaf! This recipe is also from Henrietta Morrisons book Dinner for Dogs. We substituted ground lamb for the ground beef but otherwise followed the recipe exactly and the dogs love it. The calorie count per 4 ounces is 430 or about 110 per ounce. To put it in perspective, Brutus (@ 4.5 lbs) gets about a quarter ounce and Rocco (@ 18 lbs) gets 1 ounce with the rest of their meal which usually includes steamed veggies, fruit, (sometimes) scrambled eggs and kibble. This meatloaf could be feed as a meal since it is well balance and includes both meat and vegetables. Ingredients: Vegetable oil for oiling the loaf pan 4 to 5 chicken or turkey livers (200g) (we used chicken liver) 2 cups ground beef (450g), thats about 1 pound (we used ground lamb) 1 large carrot (150g) peeled and grated 2 large eggs slightly beaten 2/3 cup (50g) old-fashioned oats 1 1/4 tablespoons finely hopped fresh parsley and/or rosemary (we used both) Preheat the oven to 350 F. Oil a loaf pan well. Cook the livers in simmering water for 3 minutes, then drain and chop fine. Put the ground beef (or lamb) in a bowl and stir in the grated potatoes, carrot and the chopped liver. Then add the eggs, oats and herbs and mix. Scoop the mixture into the oiled loaf pan and lightly flatten the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 to 1 1/2 hours (we bake for 1 1/2 hr.) Remove the meat loaf fro the oven and let stand for 20 minutes or so to make it easier to slice. The meat loaf will keep for a week in the fridge or up to 2 months in the freezer.
