Doing GODs will, often will require releasing the material goods and finances one is steward over cheerfully and not just a tenth! The tithing system is one established by the law and not grace. The tithing system is a crutch of the modern church due to its reliance on resources. It is fear based and not faith based, thus lacks the true power of GOD. Yet it is true that one who tithes cheerfully can reap from GOD (not finances, but favor which can attract finances which should not be the motivation; relationship should be the motivation, because you love Him and His will). GOD has put man in the stewardship position over ALL of GODs possessions and not just a tenth. It is time the church (people) begin to function in faith, with their material goods and finances. Many hold tight on goods and money. So tight that nothing goes out and nothing comes in. My house was one of faithful tithers. We no longer tithe, but now cheerfully give. I only desire to teach truth in sharing this. My wife an I found it a blessing being obedient in releasing a car and finances during the period of 7 months I was recently off work. It was not at a time of financial stability, but during a time of much lack. In obedience we acted not expecting anything in return. GOD is faithful. We desire to be faithful. We are merely stewards. He will manifest His glory through us. I have no doubt in that. It likely wont be easy, but worth it in eternity.
