Doing fronts...Palmer is a good example. First, go to the elbow; find the deepest part of the chest. Drop about one inch, go horizontally to the front of the legs. So your about 1 inch below the chest. Place your scissors at that point, and start trimming upward. You trim to a point about three inches below the chin. What you want is a gentle curve. Keep the curve at its largest point, behind the tip of the nose. Now I use thinning shears, because I cant use straight shears anymore neatly. I suggest especially for beginners use thinning shears. Many can use straight shears, and curved shears. But thats another skill to learn. That three inch space you left up near the chin, have it encircle the head.....You want to encase the head in this crow of glory. There are three points to keep in mind when doing the bib. B1 is that point just below the chin...B2 is where the shoulderblades come together on the chest. That is where the length of the dog is measured. Dont leave your bib too far out there..B3 is that point below the chest. If you have a leggy dog you might want to drop to say 1 1/2. This point has to be adjusted for each dog. As you develop your eye you will realize this...For balance. Any comments??
