Doing some testing of the various guns in my possession. For starters, the Nerf Magnus is a no brainer. Out of all the guns I tested this gun is dead on accurate even from a distance. Like all Nerf guns wind or a strong AC unit in a home can cause the dart to deviate. But otherwise it cant be beat for accuracy. The only downside is that this gun uses a built in 3 round magazine that loads in a weird position...so make those shots count! Another similar gun that uses the regular elite darts is the Nerf Retaliator. Its essentially a redone Nerf Recon, but the brilliance in it is that can be customized to your liking. It is essentially the AR-15 of Nerf Rifles. Plus, without any attachments, it makes a fantastic pistol that accepts magazines. The Nerf Raven, Stryfe, Hailfire and Rapidstrike are all similar to each other in that they use the accelerator system to fire the rounds automatically or semi automatically. The Rapidstrike offers the highest automatic fire rate in this class of Nerf guns (even faster than yesteryears Stampede and Vulcan), but its accuracy is abysmal. You really cant be more than 10 feet apart if you expect to hit anything human sized. But once again if you throw enough foam at something, you are bound to hit it. It is also nice to be able to just keep firing, dump your magazine and put in a fresh one and keep going. At the same time this can make the user complacent and think less about their shots. The Raven, Hailfire and Stryfe are similar with the exception that they are semi-auto. However being semi-auto they fire as quickly as you pull the trigger. So you can actually lay down more darts than the Rapidstrike with increased accuracy. You can do the same with the Rapidstrike, but oddly it just doesnt help its accuracy. The Hailfire can also hold tons of darts. The downside however is that you have to crank it to switch between magazines, and the blaster is otherwise very fragile and minimalistic. There just isnt much to the gun. Next there are the shotgun types. These are mainly just for fun, but assuming you can find a way to carry spare darts for them, they can be useful. The Zombie Strike Sledgefire is an amazing gun, especially because of the spread you get with 3 darts per shot. Essentially you give your victim little room to dodge because they will likely walk into the spread. But with only 3 shells to put darts in, you will have three victims before you have to go vulnerable and pick up darts (assuming that is legal in your game type). This and the Centurion are two guns I wish they would offer spare magazines/shells for. Guns like the Roughcut and Breakbarrel are similar stories, except they dont have the convenience of the shells to make your life easier. You simply load them either in the front of the gun or break the barrel open (like the Sledgefire) and put in two darts). The only thing is these only fire two darts at a time. So really from a utility standpoint they can be downright useless. The rotating cylinder type guns are mostly a novelty, similar to the shotguns, but less useful. These guns, like the Strong Arm or the classic Maverick, dont have a seal between the air system and the cylinder of the gun, making this gun one of the least reliable and least accurate of the bunch...really no need to waste your time on these. As far as simple spring loaded one shot sidearms, I would have to say that a good Nightfinder, Sidestrike, Jolt or Triad will do the job just fine. These are all pretty much standard guns to have in your arsenal. If you are playing a game type where picking up darts is allowed (i.e. they arent spent), you could play your whole match with just these. Just pick up and reload...and as the whole system is sealed and not magazine based, you will get nothing with better accuracy assuming your darts are fresh and not mashed up from being stored in a magazine for a long period. Finally lets talk about the spring loaded rifles. The Centurion and its old counter parts the Longstrike and the Longshot have long been the most accurate, moddable and far shooting rifles. The downside to these guns however is their unweildly size, slow firing rate, and in the case of the Centurion...lack of spare magazines. In the case of a park war, the size wont come into play much. And the reload speed wont matter much since all you need is one good shot. So what is my final load out going to look like? I am going to bring several guns and see what works best. But at the moment, I am likely going to use a Nerf Magnus as my sidearm (maybe even just the Magnus), and a Nerf Rapidstrike as my primary. I am considering giving the Centurion a second chance because of the awesomeness of the Magnus. And one tip I have for everyone. Use fresh darts, and dont store your darts in the magazines of your guns. You will cause them to compress and deform...causing misfires and poor accuracy. See you all at the event! deusprogrammer
