Doing some thorough spring cleaning in my house this week I was reminded today why so many would rather live in filth than tackle the big spiritual cleanup. As you start with a room you discover things that really should not be there, sometimes some long lost forgotten items turns up but not all of it is good, some are things that you delighted in long ago but now are ashamed to remember you even possessed and others are so worn now it needs to be thrown out. Great was my dismay when washing my curtains to have one disintegrating in my hands as I has hanging it out on the line - the African sun can be hard on fabric. Cleaning up is mostly not fun but it feels so good when it is all done and you can lay your hand on whatever you need, no nasty surprises anymore. The next step of course is keeping things in the same order and throwing out as soon as something is no longer of use. Ah, we cause ourselves a lot of misery through shear laziness and neglect - in the physical and spiritual.
