Dolores ORiordan was one of the most visible females in early-90s alternative rock. Born the youngest of seven children on September 6, 1971, the Limerick native grew up finding solace in music, singing from an early age as well as playing classical piano and organ in church In 1990 at the young age of 19 Dolores ORiordan auditioned and won the role of lead singer for a band called The Cranberry Saw Us (later changed to The Cranberries). In 1994 she wrote the song Zombie This song was inspired by the IRA bombing in Warrington, Cheshire in 1993. Two children, Jonathan Ball and Tim Parry, were killed. The IRA is a militant group determined to remove British troops from Northern Ireland. Lead singer Dolores ORiordan claimed that Zombie speaks about The Irish fight for independence that seems to last forever. The lyrics even say, Its the same old theme since 1916. She claim she wrote Zombie to be a Song for peace, peace among England and Ireland. On August 31, 1994, just a few weeks after this song was released, the IRA declared a ceasefire after 25 years of conflict, leading some critics of The Cranberries to wonder if the IRA was willing to call a truce to make sure the group didnt release any more songs about them. So with your music trivia lesson over, Come on out tonight on All Hallows Eve to the Annual Halloween bash at the Awesome Avondale hotel. 9:00 p.m No one does HALLOWEEN like COVERED IN JELLY SEE YOU THERE !
