Dolores is back, and better than ever! I was one of the lucky ones tonight. Being in the Man of Aran pub for the annual fundraiser in aid of Tuam Cancer Care is always inspiring. The voluntary effort of everyone involved, the good will of the townspeople, and the strong support of the local community always make the Bar-BQ a good place to be. But tonight at the 8th year of this event we were treated to a very special performance. The legendary Dolores Keane came and sang two of her best known songs, Teddy ONeill and Caladonia. Her voice has all the majesty, emotional power and beauty it always did, but now there are new elements of life experience and maturity gracing and elevating the unique sound of Caherlistranes finest singer. A recent survivor of breast cancer, Dolores spoke about her own experience, and gave an insiders testimony to the wonderful care and support delivered by Tuam Cancer Care, Tonight was Dolores Keanes first performance since leaving hospital. She told us that she is now ten months off the drink, and a cancer survivor to boot. Good on ya, girl. May God spare you the health.
