Dome aka Gumbad in Noida Opposite Chetram Sharma Balika Inter College (Near main sabzi mandi) Sector 45 Noida. Last few hiccups before they finally perish ! Inside someones house, a once ornamented dome capping a chhatri. Locals say that the structure was much larger just before some 10 years ago, with extensions etc., but now it is reduced to almost just the dome barely standing on pillars of a chhatri which has fresh scars like bleeding wounds and old scars, of fast disappearing Lakhori bricks. The ornamentation if at all, on the pillars or walls of the chhatri is no longer visible. The dome is capped by an inverted lotus and ornamentation at its base. It is totally black in color. Can the black color be attributed to microscopic flora and fauna, thriving on the organic composition of the building material? (like the Kali Gumti of Deer Park). Ques: This area falls in flood zone of Yamuna river and used to get inundated some 30-35 years ago. Who would think of building a funerary dome here??? Strange that the dome and its chhatri could withstand the vagaries of inundation over decades but had to give way to ravaging human hands !
