Dominican Republic Mission Trip Journal - Day 5 Saturday, May 31 Jo, Conner, Alexa, Logan, Bethany, Rachel, Maddie, Sarah, Shelbi, Michaela, Matthew, Carli, and Ethan started the morning with another day of watching the sunrise on the beach at 5:30 this morning. After that, the group had a breakfast of pancakes, eggs, and fruit. We headed out at 8:15 to Catalina Island for our free day. We first drove to La Romana to catch a ferry to take us to the island. The ferry ride took about 45 minutes. We stopped in the ocean just short of the island so we could jump off of the second deck of the ferry and also snorkel. When they tried to start the boat again, it wouldn’t start. A small boat came and made two trips to deliver us to Catalina Island. Once there, we swam and/or laid out on the beach. A little after 1 p.m., we had a buffet lunch of chicken, pork, sausage, watermelon, pineapple, noodles, spaghetti, bread, rice and beans. We stayed on the island until 3, when a replacement boat delivered us back to the mainland. We drove back to the complex and arrived just before dinner. For dinner, we ate rice and beans, chicken, carrots, broccoli, mango, and pasta salad. Afterwards, the team enjoyed their free night playing cards and watching sports on television until curfew.
