Dominican Republic Mission Trip Journal - Day 6 Sunday, June 1 Since church in the village that we chose didn’t start until 3 p.m., we were allowed to sleep in this morning. It was much needed after the sunburns that almost everyone had from yesterday. For those that got up for breakfast, they enjoyed pancakes, ham, and fruit. After a relaxing and restful morning, we enjoyed spaghetti with red sauce or chicken for lunch with salad. We then changed into our church clothes and headed out at 1:30 for Los Fundos for church. We arrived around 2:20, picking up villagers along the way. On the way, we were stopped by a train full of sugarcane, on which one of the cars had flipped over further down the tracks. Once we arrived at the church, the villagers began to come in. By the time we started church we had right at 100 total including our group, villagers, and their children. We began by singing three songs in Spanish (we were able to participate as there was a screen with the words). We prayed and then dismissed the children to Bible class. Several of our students went to assist them with class. Nate, one of the Score missionaries, preached the sermon on being poor in Spirit from Matthew 5. Most of the sermon was in Spanish, but he would stop periodically and bring us up-to-date with where he was headed with the lesson. Once the children came back, they recited scripture to us and we closed with a song. Afterwards we handed out our left-over snacks from the week to the villagers. We then took a group photo outside the church. We traveled back to the Score complex in time for a dinner of rice and beans, beef and salad. We hung out around the complex until our devotional time at 9 p.m.
